[Bronze Age Text]

| (CLICK to Enlarge)              The first recorded sea battle in America,
fought between rival flotillas of Norse cogs (= oceangoing trading ship), is
depicted in petroglyphs carved some 18 ft to the SW of the central sun-god
figure on King Woden-lithi's monument at Peterborough, Ontario.  In this detail two cogs are about to clash
head-on.  The ship on the right is
seemingly fitted with a battering ram, as also is the bow of the vessel
approaching from the upper left.             The inscription reads K-GH I-M, kogga ima, "Battle of the
  seagoing ships." (Fell 1982).   |
